Congrats and welcome to your senior year! I hope you expect a lot from me as your gov't teacher this semester. I will do my best to challenge you to think critically, to communicate effectively and to work hard. I am excited to have you in my government class at what seems like a very critical time in our gov'ts existence with recent headlines (budget problems for example) and the upcoming election.
At this time I am always reminded of a statement made by the famous Greek Pericles about 2500 years ago "Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you". You may say I don't like gov't or I am not interested in politics but you can't escape it. After all, who else did you get your driver's license from, who else would you pay your taxes to and who else would you be talking to right now if it weren't for the gov't.
All the best in the upcoming semester and your final year of high school,
Mr. Thompson
