  1. The Minnesota Supreme Court is the hight court in the state of Minnesota . It consists of seven justices who serve for six-year terms.Justices have a mandatory retirement age of 70. Before Minnesota was a territory there where only three-judge panel in 1849.President Zachary Taylor appointed the justices because they were not from the region. During 1858 Minnesota became a State. The Supreme Court reviews approximately 900 cases within a year and accepts review in about 1 in 8 cases. The cases can come from the Minnesota Court of Appeals, Workers’ Compensation Court of Appeals, Tax Court, Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board, and Board of Judicial Standards. Types of appeals that can go directly to the Supreme Court are those involving taxes, first degree murder, and workers' compensation. One thing that I found interesting is a former Minnesota Vikings player (Alan Page) got elected in 1992. Future cases that are taking place in 02/07/12 is "Abrahamson v. The St. Louis County School District, et al." There are so many different types of people from education to lawyers that work within the Supreme Court.
