  1. I don't think that Obama's plan for taxes will succeed because the article notes that the House and Senate are run by the Republicans. Republicans generally oppose Democrats in decision making.

  2. I believe that the Republicans won't allow this new budget. We are already $18 trillion in debt, why would we spend another 4 trillion to possibly add more debt to are already bad problem?

  3. Based off of the article, "Obama's Record Budget: Tax the Rich, Help the Middle Class," I believe that President Obama is making the right decision to tax the rich because, he has already helped improve our government by lowering unemployment rates and improving our image abroad. He also stated that, he would boost tax credits for families and the working poor, help restore our nation's crumbling infrastructure, and help provide 2 years of FREE community college.

  4. As I understand, the "Gingrich-Edwards Loophole" is one of Obama's new taxes that prevents people from disguising their income as business profits in order to reduce the taxes they must pay. I agree that this should be limited because it is simply unfair that certain people, such as lawyers and bankers (as mentioned in the article "Obama's 10 new taxes"), can avoid paying the appropriate tax.

  5. I find the budget ideals within the second article to promote a healthy growth. The layout maintains to be an overall homage to the general public. (in specifics) I feel if community college becomes open access, thousands of underprivileged and withered hopefuls will line up at its gate and gain understanding once unthinkable. I agree with the overall use and control the budget has to offer, be it record breaking or not.

  6. I believe that President Obama should tax the rich. The rich have more money than the middle or lower classes. We could use the funds that are gathered to, as the article "Obama's record budget: Tax the rich, help middle class" states, we could restore "the nation's crumbling infrastructure of roads and bridges, help provide two years of free community college and reverse the across-the-board, automatic budget cuts that have slammed the Pentagon and nearly every government department."

  7. I think the Buffet Tax is a step in the right direction. The wealthiest Americans paying a lower tax rate than most Americans seems counter-intuitive to what one would expect to happen. If someone who makes $10 million a year is taxed 30%, he/she still has $7 million to live on. If someone making $75,000 pays 30%, he/she has only $52,500 to live on. $7 million is still a lot more than $52,500.

  8. President Obama has proposed a tax on cigarettes nearly double the cost now, which would cause a $95 billion increase. The President has stated he would use this money for an extension of the Children's Health Insurance Program and towards preschool access for all children. According to the CDC, cigarettes claim more than 480,000 american lives each year. I believe that this tax should be implemented in our country because it not only prevents people from buying cigarettes, which are harmful to their health, but the money gained would be put back into society for improvements. I believe it is important for all children to have an early education. If revenue gained from this tax would ensure access to preschool, all American children would increase their likelihood to succeed in secondary education which would then create more adept citizens in the future. 9. Based on the information from the article "Obama's Record Budget: Tax the Rich,Help middle class". Due to the high tax on the rich it would help benefit the people who would struggle with funding for college, i agree and disagree because why would you help pay for tuition for students who lacked in school and put forth little effort for them to continue to due the same thing to ruin their future careers, but at the same time i do believe it could help the people who try their best in school and have struggles affording college, so in my eyes it is a two way street it.

  10. According to Obama's tax limiting itemized deductions for the wealthy, Obama wishes to limit the values ,such as morgage interest, to 28% of their income. I agree with this because it seems unfair to put their interest at to high of rates, and of to low of rates. Also, it would raise over $640 billion, and that seems like a pretty good deal.

According to the article, “Obama's record budget: Tax the rich, help middle class,” “The blueprint for the 2016 budget year that begins Oct. 1 represents a 6.4 percent increase over estimated spending this year, projecting that the deficit will decline to $474 billion.” Although this article presents an abundance of pros and cons making the decision a difficult one; I do agree with his budget because I believe that pros such as a decline in the deficit are worth dealing with the cons.

  13. after reading about Obama's 10 newest taxes I was very interested in the rise of cigarette prices. Looking at the big picture of the more broad situation I believe that nearly doubling the price could benifit multiple things and or people by not only reducing the amount of cigarette smokers but it could also help put the extra money gained into something much more important. Obama stated that the money spent on cigarettes would benifit children's education and for that reason I believe that this tax would be extremely beneficial to many.

  14. In our world today, it is becoming harder and harder to receive a position in a decent career without a college education. The article "Obama's record budget: Tax the rich, help middle class" states that President Obama plans to institute a program which includes two years of free community college to everyone. I think this decision will benefit our country greatly! Free education will be very beneficial to those who are not as fortunate and may not have the means to pay for a college education. As a result of college becoming publicly available, more people will be able to acquire the skills and credentials they so deeply need to shape a career.

The positives would being the possible persuasion on tobacco users to quit on the almost dollar raise on prices, also Obama was saying their could be a possible 95 billion dollar raise that could guarantee of one of his ongoing proposals towards universal access to preschool.

  17. Obama's third new tax, according to "Obama's 10 new taxes," would end the tax break on gains made through buying and selling stock. Currently, when the money passes on to your kids, they will be excused from paying the tax. I agree with this plan because the current system usually applies to the wealthy, and the $208 billion raised could be used for things like education and aid to those in need. Also, they will allow the tax break for small businesses and the middle and lower class, so they people that need the money will still have it.

The article mentions that one of those said goals is to allow for two free years of community college. I believe this to be something the government should be striving for, as it is said that America is falling behind in education compared to many of the other leading first world nations. making community college free would be the first step in helping the many limited great minds in this country, who can't afford college.

  22. Obama's ninth new tax, according to "Obama's 10 new taxes" would increase the price on tobacco, taxes would double on cigarettes and small cigars to about $1.95 per pack. These increases would pay for two political initiatives: extending Children's Health Insurance Program which is due at the end of this year, and proposal to guarantee access to preschool. I agree with this plan because if people are willing to pay for tobacco for the risk of their health, then they should be willing to pay for children's health insurance and the access for children to go to preschool for families who can't afford for their child to go.

  23. According to "Obama's 10 New Taxes" the ninth new tax is about doubling the price of taxes on tobacco- as stated in the article "double taxes on cigarettes and small cigars to about $1.95 per pack from about $1.01 per pack" by doing so this will tax the inflation. The usage of this extra tax money is to fund the Children's Health Insurance Program and for universal access to preschool. I agree to this tax because it is benefiting the future of kid's education and health. The kid's today are the foundation of the future. What I do disagree on is how much the tax on tobacco increased because the increase was such a high jump that might cause future chaos among citizens.

I support this idea because it promotes equality, giving every one a chance to have a better future. However, if this plan was to become a reality, I would want there to be higher standards for those who would be attending for free. I don't believe that people who don't put effort into their high school work/get poor grades should receive an education for free. If people know they can get two years of college education for free if their grades are good enough, I think it will motivate them to work harder in high school and I think there would be less drop-outs.

In the second article, "Obama's Record Budget: Tax the rich, Help the Middle Class", I agree with Obama's plan to increase taxes on people with wealthier incomes because the extra money will be used to help people trying to support themselves and their families who receive less substantial incomes. The key from this part of the article is that Obama is using this extra money to support the less fortunate WORKNIG class. So people making an effort to provide enough for their family will be supported while people that aren't working will not receive extra money from the government. However, the smokers may be upset when they see that their precious cigarettes have been taxed yet again, reaching nearly 10 dollars a pack, some smokers may feel as if it is not a logical thing to be spending money on. 61. "Obamas 10 new taxes" is an article that is about exactly what the title states. In this article many new proposal's by Barack Obama. A segment of this article talks about taxing the rich at a rate of 30% compared to the normal rate. From the eyes of a wealthy man making millions. I could see why being taxed more would seem wrong. a very large majority of wealthy households the money was earned through hard work, with the obvious exception of a few hand-me-downs. Taking more from them because they worked hard to get where they are hardly seems fair. But from my stand point, being middle class, I believe that the rich should have a desire to better the economy in their country and be willing to help people in the middle class. Not directly, but the extra tax goes towards things like education. The raise to public education facilities even by 1% could give that school the ability to create 10 new brilliant minds. Which in return could result in new business's and new inventions towards the advancement of our economy as a nation. I believe there are negatives and positives to this article but the overall the positive outcome it could bring should be worth it to both classes, not just the middle class.

What the federal government would do is they will cover three-quarters of the average cost of community college while participating states will be expected to contribute the remaining funds necessary to eliminate the tuition for eligible students. That could help out people a lot and it is a good idea.-Tyler Strain
