Libya’s stalled revolution

It seems the "revolution" in Libya has been pushed to the backburners a bit with the news in Japan. However I don't know that it would be responsible to forget about what is happening in this African nation. This BBC article provides some common questions and answers to those questions that you may be wondering about.

A 2nd article discusses the US response to a proposed "no-fly" zone over Libya. Should US planes be flying over Libyan air space?

  1. If you are a person who does what they're told, the simpilest answer is to not fly over Libya. There are good and bad things about flying over Libya. Hypothetically, if you were to fly over Libya, would there be soldiers trying to shoot you down? If that does happen not very many people would be happy with you. A positive is that you would be able to survey the area and make a plan to contain the area. The way the above was written makes me think of a spot light. Quote: 'It seems the "revolution" in Libya has been pushed to the backburners a bit with the news in Japan.' It's alright that we have strayed from Africa and given japan some attention. Libya has not been forgotten just set aside because it seems a more important issue is happening in Japan. The US planes should fly over Libyan air space. We fight for freedom, but it seems that, in the past, we already have bitten of more than we can chew, which could be a sign that we need to stop.

  2. I believe that there should be a "no-fly" zone over Libya, for the reason that the U.S is not familiar with there abilities, the U.S does not know what they are really capable of and we do not want our people getting hurt due to flying over Libya, we are not sure what is going to be waiting for us on the ground when we are flying over; we do not know if it is safe for our planes to fly over Libya. That is why i agree with the "no-fly" zone i believe it will keep the U.S people safer.

  4. My opinion is that there should be a "no fly zone" over Libya. The reason for this is that the situation in Libya has gotten out of control. Many people have died and something has to be done about it. That something is a "no fly zone". The "no fly zone" will fix the problem by letting the Libya government know that the rebels are not alone. If the U.S. doesnt do the "no fly zone", Libya will basically self-distruct itself. Besides, the "no fly zone" is not completely decided by the U.S. only, the United Nations takes the decisions. So if the "no fly zone" doesnt work, im pretty sure they would come up with another idea to stop the "revolution".

  5. We should definitely enforce the "no fly zone". It shouldn't be a question after the pro-Gaddafi troops are shooting into the air at the rebels. Since the US, and other allies are technically on the rebels side, that means potential harm to all of us. With all the crimes already happening in Lybia against their own people, what's to say that it will stop Gaddafi's men from doing the same to the the US and other allies.

  6. It seem rather reasonable to endorse the "no-fly" zone over Libya. I quote the first BBC article in the explanation of my reasoning "The east of Libya also has a history of hostility towards authority". This statement alone is enough for me to say keep the U.S. out of Libya. While we think we can help and solve issues, we actually might be adding to the tension.

  7. I agree with the no fly zone over Libya because the first article explains that they have a history of going against the authority, so if US goes to fly over and help, Libya's soldiers might be there waiting to shoot US's planes down. I think the US should just stay out of the problem in Libya as of right now.

  8. I feel that the US should support the United Nations in the decision to impose a no fly zone of Libya to protect the innocent Libyan people. I also feel that the United Nations should apply heavy financial sanctions against Gaddafi and seize and hold all his international money supplies and support. Any nation or group found supporting Gaddafi's troops should also have their assets seized and frozen. I feel that the Unites States has no business entering its military into another world conflict, and should continue to draw down its troops in those nations it has been supporting with its military such as Afghanistan.

  9. I feel that imposing a no fly zone is the right decision, and from what I have seen from it, the no fly zone is working. If the United Nations would not have placed the no fly zone, I feel that things would be much worse than what it is now. Along the lines of the world helping out in this conflict, I feel that it should fall to the european nations to help enforce the no fly zone and keep watch while these events unfold, not the United States.

  10. i think that the US should support what the United Nations wants which is a no fly zone. The no fly zone means that no plane should fly over the area this includes US planes. I don't think that the US should fly over the area because you put at risk the pilots and also you just angry the people there. There is too much of a risk flying over the area for any plane.

  11. i think that we should enforce the "no fly" in libya because omar gadafis force have been kill innosecnt people with their air striks. Also US airplanes should not be flying over libya because they could get shot donw by libyan ground force and that one of united nations ground force could accidently shoot it down thinking that it is a libyan plane

  12. i think that the us shouldnt have got in libya's business just have left it alone the us cant help everybody what if other places wanted to start killing there people is the us gonna help them to we should stay in are own business before we really do go into a war which nobody needs right now

  14. I think the United Nations made a good decision making Libya into a no fly zone. I think the US should stay out of the problem and let the government and people handle that business. Its also a risk to have planes flying over a country whose having problems.

  15. i think that they should be able to fly over libia because if its affecting the usa on what libia is doing then i think we should do something about it and try to help because with a no fly zone we wouldnt be able to get over there and then we wouldnt be able to help.

  16. I think the no fly zone is a great idea it will prevent the Libya army to bomb innocent people. and they can prevent from the Kadafi from escaping the country threw the air.

  17. After reading the articles I don't believe there should be a no-fly zone. We are only trying to help the citizens from being harmed by Gaddafi's air foreces. There is so much violence towards anti-Gadaffi citizens. They are being battled against with, "machine guns and being bolstered by air power." By flying over Libya we are only trying to protect the citizens. I don't think we have to worry about what Gadaffi's forces would do against the UN flying over Libya because the UN has pretty powerful forces.

  18. I think a no fly zone is a great thing, because the Libyan military cannot bomb and kill innocent people. and not to mention that the dictator Ghadafi will have one less way to leave the country.

  19. I think the united nations making Libya into a No Fly Zone was a great idea. Because then they can't shoot planes down. They also can't bomb their people because that would be devastating.

  20. The no fly zone by the UN was a good plan due to the problems in Libya. It protects the people from planes that can harm them. It also protects other plans from being shot down.\

  21. I understand that we as Americans want to help other countries out because what goes on with Libya can effect us in the states. They provide our oil for us to produce our gas. But, I agree with No-fly zone because if we get too involved we can effect the people in the state of Libya.

  22. I think a no fly zone over Libya would be a step towards putting a stop to the violence taking place in their country. By preventing Gaddafi from using planes to attack his own people, many innocent lives could be saved. The number of people already who have been killed is outrageous and by allowing air force planes to attack the protestors, only more injuries and death would result. Making a no fly zone would not halt the revolution completely since Gaddafi's troupes are also attacking on land using machine guns, but it would be a step in teh right direction and could save many innocent lives.

  23. i think that Libya should be a safe place to fly so if we have to bomb them to make it posible then so be it if they are going to make are gas prices raise put us in a bind then we should do the same back to libya

  24. I don't know much about Gaddafi and his seriousness to take Libya down with him if the Libyan people don't want him to step down, but i don't think that the U.S should ignore the fly zone. Gaddafi soldiers might shoot down anything they see flying because it is his country and he wants nobody come into his land, i think American should respect that.

It is definitely a good idea to enforce a no fly zone over Libya. If Gaddafi is going to use his air force to heavily bomb his own people and land, it makes sense to put an end to it. It has a very good chance of being passed as well as the UN has proposed it and the US backs it. As far as the US flying over the no fly zone, it doesn't make sense to me why we would. If there is a no fly zone over Libya and we helped enforce it, it would be like going against our own word. Also im sure the pro-Gaddafi people wouldnt be to happy to see that we were up there.

  28. It's nice to see other nations stepping in to crisis, and not just the US, because it would appear that the US is just out to get some more oil.
I think the no fly zone is a very good idea, Gaddafi will not be able to harm the citizens of Libya by dropping bombs. There is also a risk because Gaddafi does have strong military equipment that he could use to retaliate against the US. He even claimed that a no fly zone would be a declaration of war.

  29. I believe there should be a 'no fly zone' over Lybia simply because it ensures the safety of the civilians. Overall I don't think the US should take the responsibility full on, but we should probably do something. It is a way to help Lybia and our own country.

  30. A no fly zone should be put in place by the U.S. over Libya. A no fly zone would be a strong first step towards protecting the citizens of Libya from attacks by Gaddafi. Although it would not may not completely protect the libyan people, nor would it start any action towards removing the dictator from power, it would be a safety net, that if put in place would begin to reduce the death count and minimize the violence in Libya.

  32. I believe that a no fly zone would be best becuase we don't need to give the Lybian's more reason to try something. I think it's none of our buisness what they do over there, other countries don't step into our buisness when were having troubles, and we should be like them, let them deal with there own problems and as soon as they mess with us, than we can do something.
