Are you ready to caucus Minnesota?

For those of you wanting to caucus in Minnesota, or just wondering what caucusing is all about, here is a 5 minute video explaining the caucus process. I am also including the primary and caucus schedule for the various states for 2012. You can see when Minnesot'a caucus' are compared to other states. Feel free to comment the content from either of the 2 links.

  1. The schedule of the caucuses and primaries surprised me a lot. I opened it expecting to find a pattern of when each state's caucus/ primary would be. I looked for patterns of order by size, population, region, party, and method (whether by caucus or primary), and it appears to me that the determination of schedule was totally random. Mr. Thompson said that Minnesota is a primary, but then he later elaborated that it is kind of an exception. This webpage categorizes it as a caucus. That was interesting to me. I would like to learn more about that. Minnesota's caucus/primary/exception day is February 7, 2012, the same day as Colorado and Missouri. Missouri also appears to have a finicky system. It must be even more exceptional than Minnesota because this webpage makes a note of it.

  2. i thought it was really funny how in the video the two ladies were explaining how the caucus works. How their are people elected to act as. pretty much news gathers and and shares for the up coming. election which is February 7,2012 not the 5 haha. but i do find it really interesting that some people really do show up to these caucuses. not a whole bunch but enough to have a group of people who pretty much the same beliefs as one another.i would love to learn more about this.

  3. after watching the video, it really surprised me that there seemed to be no pattern of which the caucuses are preformed. I thought caucuses were preformed from least number of electoral votes to greatest number of electoral votes. However it simply appairs to be randomly. I think it is interesting that not many at all appear to these caucuses. Enough come to get an idea of who they want to run for president but, i think it would really be benefitual to our country if at least half of the voters showed up for these. Then, we would get a better idea of who the voters want to run.

  4. When i looked @ the schedule of the caucuses and primaries , it really surprised me how random they were . I expected to see a detailed schedule . I thought maybe the schedule would be based off of the states size or location , but it seems they were just randomly picked . When i watched the video , it surprised me that the caucus was actually pretty small . There wasn't as many people there as i thought there would be . I think it would be really interesting and would be a good learning experience to go to Minnesota's caucus on February 7th , 2012 .

This video is a great tutorial for first time caucus participants. This video showed that during the caucus meetings, voters walk in and sign in and receive a presidential preference ballot. During the meeting the chairman reviews the rules and gets it going for who should be the meeting leader. I found this part interesting because it is the voters who come out for the caucus get to be leaders during the meeting as opposed to people who might have organized the event. The prescient chair and associate chair are simple positions that help out time to time local party candidate’s campaign. They get to volunteer to be attending state and senate district convention; here the volunteers can be a part of the hearing of issues being added to the platform as well as when the candidates are chosen. During the caucus they present resolutions, anyone can write up a resolution these are the best ways to express issues. In the conventions upstate the more volunteers they attend is the best way the unions can get their points across and get the votes they want. This would be a great opportunity to get the peoples opinions out.
