This is the home of the US Supreme Court. Feel free to surf the site for something you think is of interest and post your comments. Remember to write it well and respond to the following: what did you learn and why did you find that significant.
Mr. Thompson
As I already knew, there are 9 supreme court Justices. There is 1 chief court justice and 8 other justices. Something significant that I learned today was that the chief justice is John G. Roberts, Jr. I also learned that the 8 other justices were specifically referred to as "associate justices". The 8 associate justices include Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy, Clarence Thomas, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen G. Breyer, Samuel A. Alito, Jr., Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan.
ReplyDeleteI learned here are also Court Officers who, "assist the Court in the performance of its functions". These officers include: Counselor to the Chief Justice - Jeffrey P. Minear, Clerk - William K. Suter, Librarian - Linda Maslow, Marshal - Pamela Talkin, Reporter of Decisions - Christine L. Fallon, Court Counsel - Scott Harris, Curator - Catherine E. Fitts, Director of Information Technology - Robert J. Hawkins, and Public Information Officer - Kathleen L. Arberg.
I also learned that some of the cases dealt with here included subjects of debt, finances, and murder.
Something I found interesting while I was Surfing, the US Supreme Court site was about US Courts of Appeals and US District Courts. There are total 13 Circuit Courts, two of which are also known as D.C Circuit and Federal Circuit. All 50 states are part of this circuit court or in words all states fall in the boundaries of this 11 circuit courts.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly each of the nine justice are assigned to each of this circuit. The Chief Justice is assigned to three circuit, and other justice also known as Associate Justice are assigned to other 11 circuit some are assigned to couple circuits.
note* when I said assigned, they are not really assigned by someone, but instead it's more like they're assignments that they have to do.

I learned from this article that in the history of all the surpeme court justices, there are only 3 that have retired from duty before dying. These people are SANDRA DAY O'CONNOR
ReplyDeleteDAVID H. SOUTER JOHN PAUL STEVENS
The origin of the surpeme court was dated back to the third article of the constitution.
